Everyone talks about scenario based training but few instructors actually know how to incorporate and use scenario based training concepts with everyday flight training - let alone see how customers will enjoy and benefit from its immediate results.

Arlynn McMahon's Train Like You Fly superbly walks you through this new and better frontier of training where we now learn how to teach "thinking" and "decision making" skills to pilots. The book is easy to read, a testament to Ms. McMahon's grasp of a such a difficult subject. This book features "scenario-based training," which is actually training in the art of "thinking like a pilot." If you are an instructor, a pilot preparing for a flight review, or a pilot-in-training, you will benefit from using Arlynn's exercises and approach to training. There are examples of scenarios you can use in flight, during ground training, and in aviation training devices (like Microsoft Flight Sim). This method is much more engaging, and more useful, than the rote regurgitation of regulations and facts. Get this book if you want to train---or be---a better pilot.

I started flipping through the pages, expecting to read just the intro as I had only a few minutes to my subsequent appointment. But I could not put it down. A MUST read for every flight instructor out there. Well written, well documented and well worth the investment in time and money. I found myself using some of Ms. McMahon's ideas on my very subsequent lesson - and my student loved it! I highly recommend this book - but not when you only have 5 minutes to read. ...and I highly recommend that Ms. McMahon write its sequel.

I got my copy of "Train Like You Fly" last Saturday and have not put it down since. Well written, well researched and lots of practical ideas. Arlynn shows how to build command decision making into flight training leading to pilots that are not just legal but safe and considerate of other users in the system.

A really great book that I expect to have dog-eared as I working on my instructor's rating here at home in Australia. And I have bought a second copy to give to my instructor
