This book definately grabs you from the beginning. I found myself reading faster so that I could find out how it resolved. However the problem I have with the book is that it drug on in the middle. It was as though the author needed to fill extra pages to make the book longer. The wrap up was odd too. Almost as though the author had the idea for the beginning and then couldn't figure out how to end the book.

The story is poignant, original, fresh -- and the writing is beautiful. Although the premise is grisly, the story is hopeful and timely. A young girl is lured to her rape and murder by a neighbor who has preyed on others. As Susie watches her family, friends, and neighbors from her heaven we see the havoc that is wreaked on the survivors' lives. Although she cannot interact with the living or influence them, she cannot stop watching and hoping that, somehow, they will be O.K. I highly recommend this book for all ages high school and up. (My teen book club chose this book for this month's book club read and I can't wait to hear what they thought!)

The perspective of this book is original and the story is very compelling. This is a great book for young adults and up the story get under your skin and makes you believe in the characters. Dealing with such a serious topic the writing still finds room for wit and charm. I highly recommend Lovley Bones.

When I told anyone who asked what this book was about, they invariably replied "that sounds awful". Being a story of a family's grief after their daughter is murdered, you'd think so. But the author does a wonderful job of making it real and readable at the same time - it's not like reading of an awful murder story on [...]. I'll admit the beginning is a little difficult to read, not impossible but...unpleasant I guess. And I think the idea of watching your family grieve for you from heaven would be torture. Having said that, it was an enjoyable read and I would recommend it to my friends.

This was very unconventional for me and in the beginning, I was not exactly sure I'd like it. However, I loved it.
It is amazing how quickly I became accepting of the concept of this girl's point of view. I am also glad that this didn't become a matter of religion. Generally, I thought the approach was soft but meaningful.
