The caricature of Al Gore as a robotic drone that used to be portrayed on Saturday Night Live sits in stark juxtaposition with the Al Gore that presents himself in this movie. Speaking frankly and simply and often using visual aides, Al Gore creates a scenario and a story so compelling and blatant that it is easy to see and understand the science and logic behind his arguments. This film enraptures the viewer and presents information and a viewpoint that one might previously have failed to consider. It is definitely worth the money.

What a sore loser! Not only did Gore try and cheat the 2000 election, but he whined about it for years later! Their is no such thing as global warming, this is all a man made assumption just like Y2K. Solely for money purposes. The weather is fine these days and it will remain fine. If a real issue like this was occurring, we all know that the Bush administration will take care of us American citizens.
Al Gore, stop being a whiny loser, stop cheating elections, stop with the global warming crap!

I have been a long time critic of global warming theories. The information I had been receiving through the years lead me to no definite answer and a multitude of lingering questions. Because of this and my natural skepticism I never imagined that one movie would change all of that. An Inconvenient Truth turned out to be just that. Al Gore answered every single one of my questions and did so with hard facts and clarity of vision. He also went on to explain how a disinformation campaign had been waged to confuse the public and thus avoid the real problem. All of this had been done for the sake of protecting short term corporate profits.
To this day I have discussions with people who are doubters and their rejection is often founded on the idea that "No one really knows one way or the other." These people need to watch the documentary or if they live in the northeast like I do, all they have to do is look out the window. I write this review on Dec 28th, 2008 - the supposed middle of winter and yet it is 60 degrees outside. At a time when we should be knee deep in snow and sporting winter jackets, I'll be walking around in a t-shirt. The record highs and low across the country are breaking daily, there are tens of thousands of new records. The maybe factor of such an enormous shift has been squashed. It is real and we must deal with it.

No, this is not Jane Austen or Merchant Ivory, this is Al Gore. The big, sweaty man has come back and traveling the world with his message, he's also staring intently at the screen of his Mac Powerbook. He does one thing very well in this movie: he shows that industry is producing a great deal of CO2, and then he correlates a rise in CO2 with a rise in average global temperatures; this is part of the here and now, the world today. He also paints interesting scenarios of what this might mean for the world, any of which is very scary indeed. But as he disingenously points out, thousands of peer-reviewed scientific reports have been written to prove that global warming is a real phenomenon, while none have been written to debunk it. In other words, there was no reason to make this film, other than to give a voice to the scientific community by a well-known non-politician (since there are no longer any well-known scientists except cranks with agendas like Richard Dawkins). More interesting to me is the structure of the film and the way it influences (or manipulates) the viewer. One scene where he is hinting that the last devastating global crisis that the world faced was the one that Winston Churchill warned about in 1932 is followed after a long pause by one where he talks about losing the White House to George Bush. He is juxtaposing mentions of Nazis with comments on the current Washington administration. Sneaky, or just plain brilliant? He also makes his story even more personal by finding ways to make relevant to the narrative two family crises: the car accident that nearly claimed the life of his son and the cancer that robbed him of his beloved sister. While I'm not sure what they have to do with global warming, it does make the story tender. And when Al shifts from being a sad sack "the subsequent president of the United States" to being an inspirational firebrand, you know that the film is over.

I enjoyed Mr. Gore's DVD. Though boring at times, it offers everyone a very interesting view of the trouble of Global Warming.
