Editor's Notes and Comments:
Description:
The F-86 Sabrejet was the very first swept-wing fighter for the United States Air Force and made it's claim to fame patrolling 'MiG Alley' during the Korean War. Through direct digital transfers this dynamic two-disc DVD set will allow you to witness the F-86 like never before. Besides the archival film, there is commentary by men who knew the Sabre well, and the F-86's primary foe ... the Russian built MiG-15.
Two-disc DVD contains:
- Original 43-minute documentary
- Nearly a full hour of F-86 gun camera footage!
- An hour of Korean War footage and interviews with F-86 Sabre aces including McConnell, Jabara, Fernandez, Gabreski, Ruddell, Garrison, Bolt ... and a future Astronaut! - Colour footage of the legendary Bob Hoover performing aerobatics in an F-86F
- A short film on 'The Fighting 51st' Fighter Group in Korea during 1952
- Initial test flights of the XP-86, F-86E, and the YP-86D
- Full colour walkaround of an F-86L
- Nearly 200 vintage high resolution photographs of F-86s including every USAF Sabre ace!
- Plus more rare bonus footage of the F-86 AND the MiG-15 ... approx 6 hours total!
Note: Contains grey and white and colour footage

Incredible! The only DVD release anywhere that contains footage and
interviews of any of the Sabre Aces, such as McDonnell, Fernandez,
Jabara and a young Buzz Aldrin! It puts a face to an overlooked but
critical phase of Air Combat history, the real beginning of the
Cold War, and probably the only time that the US and Soviets came to
actual blows!

I was pleasantly surprised by the contents of this DVD - over 5 hours of viewing on two disks and much of it of very high quality. The disks cover a wide range of fascinating material from the early testing and flights of the Sabre jets to rare insights into life on the airfields at Kimpo and Taegu during the Korean Conflict. Commentary by retired Sabre pilots and footage/interviews with many of the famous jet aces (Connell, Fischer, Gabreski, Jabara, etc) in Korea provide a fascinating insight, together with a 30 minute documentary on the famous 51st Fighter Interceptor Wing. Footage of actual operational briefings as well as a discusion of tactics against MIG fighters add to the realism of it all. Although most of the footage is in grey and white, the quality is generally good. Some colour footage of legendary pilot Bob Hoover performing aerobatics during the late 50s in a Sabre is excellent. An interesting Air Force training film has been added as well as an original piece of Air Force propaganda explaining the early warning systems in place to defeat communist bombers attacking America. Some rare footage of a captured MIG-15 jet including its evaluation and testing by Air Force pilots is an unexpected bonus. I would thoroughly recommend this DVD to anybody interested in aviation or early jets.
