Editor's Notes and Comments:

Product Description:

Max Wawrzyniak is an outboard motor guru. He advocates finding an old motor at a yard sale for $50 and fixing it up, rather than spending $1500 on a new motor. Sometimes the 'secret' to getting a perfectly running motor from a lifeless hulk is as simple as a new sparkplug and a squirt of WD-40 into the cylinder. What he teaches is not only a money-saving skill, but can also be life-saving, as the boater will no longer be helpless in the face of engine failure at sea. Max's clear instructions and detailed photographs will make anyone into a mechanic.

Rated by buyers 5 out of 5 stars - cheap outboards, good info
this book will save you some time and mistakes, if you are mechanically inclined and interested in saving money when powering up your boat

Rated by buyers 4 out of 5 stars - Good, but restricted to real old OMC engines
Good book, but almost totaly dedicated to old (I meam old, like 50's to late 60's) OMC engines. The reason is well explained in the begining of the book, and it makes sense in a country like US or other places with strong presence of OMC outboards, however here in Brazil the market share OMC have is about the same the Japanese brands also have, and 50's to 60's outboards are real rare. So, for someone in Brazil, it's best look for some other book. However, if you are in US and likes to play with motors, this book may help in finding a good old pair of motors and put them in running condition.

Rated by buyers 5 out of 5 stars - Great info on OMC
Lots of details and pictures. Covers fairly specific OMC models and years not alot on merc or some harder too work on brands..

Rated by buyers 5 out of 5 stars - A must-have for boating on a budget
I see more and more large inboard boats coming up for sale at incredibly low prices. Incredible until you consider the mainenance costs. In this work Max Wawrzyniak takes the reader on a step-by-step journey to cheap and reliable marine power, via old OMC outboards. By following his advice I now have two 50-year-old motors that start with one pull and get the job done time after time. My total investment including parts has been less than $400 per motor. That is really hard to beat!

Rated by buyers 5 out of 5 stars - Excellent outboard book on OMC products
Excellent comprehensive book on 1950-1969 Evinrude ,Johnson,Gale and Buccaneer motors from 3hp to 40hp. Highly recommended!!!!
