The Theology of time is a compilation of twenty lectures given by Elijah Muhammad, Messenger of Allah, between the periods of June 4, 1972 and October 29, 1972.
The setting was the dedication of Temple #2, Chicago, IL, wherein the Messenger was the keynote speaker for the subsequent twenty lectures. This was very significant in light of the Messenger being forbidden up to that time to speak. He stated that Allah had forbade him to come out until it was time.
Excerpts from the lecture series were put into the Muhammad Speaks Newspaper; however, the entire transcript was not published until the early 90's by the former secretary of the Nation of Islam. This early edition was published in the form of a subject indexed format, which made for easy reading; however one drawback was that where there was no significant quantity of subject matter, certain aspects were omitted. These omissions were in part the reason why the whole transcript in its entirety was published by Secretarius MEMPS.
First published in 1997, Minister Nasir Hakim compiled each lecture as they were taught by the Messenger and this method was considered best; for the Messenger himself stated, 'Since the time is helping me make manifest so much of what I am teaching, I want to...give it to you...but can't do that until I get you on the very first step. I got to go step by step to the very first step to get you to see, but once you see you will be like the donkey Balaam was riding. Remember, the donkey had never had [a conversation] with an angel. He was confounded to see an angel standing before him; teaching him the knowledge of what he was carrying on his back.
'Allah is making manifest the truth all out in the streets, all around you and above you, so we don't have to go after it like we did 40 years ago....What I've been saying is only to shape you for listening to the real thing that I want to give you. I have just now got up to the steps of what I intend to teach you...and seeing that you do not know these steps that I am taking, I build them all up one by one to you, then when I get you up to the floor, you can take a seat and sit down.'
This mean and method used by the Messenger not only confirms the importance of completeness, but how the teaching was delivered as well. The exceptions of omissions and easy reading created by the former secretary's attempt, was at the expense of the rule. This can be similarly characterized when reflecting on the rules of mathematics. Although one knows how to add, subtract, multiply, use square roots and substitutions, but without adhering to the rules of math, the wrong answer is highly likely. Whereas, if one were addressing an equation which deals with all the above, then if square roots aren't solved first, the answer will be wrong, because that is the rule of math. Likewise, if the method in which the Messenger gave the message is omitted, then possibly where one ends up may not be where the object of the teaching is intended. This is the major reason a full compilation as the Messenger taught it is now produced.
This lecture series represent one of the most comprehensive overviews of the Messenger's work ever compiled into one body of knowledge. Based on such profundity, Minister Nasir Hakim included many footnote citings of all biblical and qur'anic scriptures referenced by the Messenger.
This compliment of scholarship gave even more weight to how important it is for this book of higher wisdom to be made part of one's library.

While his teachings are perhaps still on trial before the bar of world opinion, only time and God will successfully defend the Honorable Elijah Muhammad. But The Theology of Time, a magnificent compilation of 22 lectures, wherein Elijah Muhammad expounds on the more arcane aspects of his teachings, should suffice until such day arrives. This is not an easy read but it's a pleasant one if you know how to read the Messenger. In Elijah Muhammad's other books, he expounds on his message to give readers an awakening; but in this book, he expands that message to give the "scientists" a deeper look into his mind. This work is not for Nation of Islam or Black Studies neophytes. But even they, however, will bear witness to a profound theology just gleaning a few pages in this book.
For advanced minds, this is the advanced Elijah Muhammad book. When you understand this stuff, then you understand the man and a whole lot more.
Perhaps the most controversial and misunderstood leader in the history of the world, Elijah Muhammad is deserving of a recognotion, which at least distinguishes him as one of the great social reformers in world history. What greater testimony can we possibly have of that, than that of Malcolm X himself. Make no mistake, orthodox Islam did not reform Malcolm Little; Elijah Muhammad did. Now, as that recognition would still, nevertheless, shotchange this great man; it would at least be a step in the right direction. He declared that he was the "Messenger of Allah," and I've not known of anyone who could sucessfully debunk that claim. So the jury is still in deliberation on the "Elijah Muhammad" case, and it doesn't look good for the plaintiffs. We may presently receive a verdict: "Innocent."
While some of Elijah Muhammad's teachings are perhaps questionable, as popular history may not lend surface support to his assertions about the origins and identities of the races (especially white people), and the beginning of the earth in its connection with the moon; his teachings could be better understood if he, himself, were better understood and appreciated. Elijah Muhammad was a leader cut in the mold of prophets, and much of what he taught he couched in parables and allegories. Some of his most questionable and suspect teachings were allegories that people misunderstood because they lacked understanding of the arcane.
This theology is on time and telling. But time is still desired to tell.

The Theology of Time is a lecture series given by The Honorable Elijah Muhammad in 1972 over a series of 22 weeks which corresponds to the 22 chapters in the Book of Revelation in the Bible. In 1972, the N.O.I. had purchased an Greek Orthodox Church which at the time was rated one the ten most beautiful churches in America, and converted it into a mosque. The Theology of Time lecture series serves as the mosque's theological induction. The message contained in this book is profound. The Honorable Elijah Muhammad deconstructs Christianity as taught by ... and exciorates the slave mentality developed by ... people under the hegemony of Anglo-American civilization. No matter what your theological/ideological or philsophical orientation is towards the European representation of Jesus and the ... whether you are ... person or ...k person, your thinking would forever be changed by reading this book. For the reader wanting an introduction to the teachings of T.H.E.M., this is not the book to start off with first. I suggest that you read .... Our Savior Has Arrived in the order I described so that you will have the framework necessary to understand and appreciate the Theology Of Time. In the books just mentioned, T.H.E.M., breaks down in great detail some of the points that are covered in the Theology of Time. The lecture series given in 1972, served to reinforce and expound upon prior teachings/lectures given over forty years to his followers so there is/was no need for T.H.E.M. to deconstruct his teachings when that was done in prior books. So if the reader doesn't have this framework, she/he will either be lost or partially grasp the concepts discussed in the lecture series. No religious leader on the earth has before or since lectured on the matters introduced in this lecture series. This book cracks the atom of thought which releases tremendous energy and causes one to study many things.

This lecture series was the culmination of 40 years of public work of Messenger Elijah Muhammad. He brings the reader face to face with God, dispelling the old fairy tale beleifs of the past. This transcription is the perfect companion to the audio series and can be used alone or as a supplemnt to the audio. Worth 10 times as much as the cover price!
