Editor's Notes and Comments:
Product Description:
The air war over the critical Eastern Front is illustrated with 120 specially selected and informatively captioned photographs in this striking new book. Initial sucess in Russia during the summer of 1941 gave way to desperate days after Stalingrad and the failure of Germany's last major offensive in 1943. Subsequently the Luftwaffe was stripped of its newest fighters for the defense of the Reich and lost air superiority to the Red Air Force. Unusual scenes include bombed-out Russian aircraft abandoned during the initial German advance and the use of horses and oxen to haul supplies and even aircraft, as fuel became scarce toward the end of the war. Several pictures of aircraft operated by the Germans' Rumanian allies add to the full insight given by this book into the air war in the East.

This small book (just 72 pages) consists basically of a collection of (very good) pictures, with its respective legends, most of them unpublished until now (at least in the books I got). The stile is similar to "Aircraft of The Luftwaffe Fighter Aces", from Bernd Barbas's, made only over pictures and practically without technical text. Noteworthy is the initial section, with 10 (ten) WWII original colour pictures (the pictures are without credits but I guess they are from the autor or from the famous Jeff Ethell's private collection). A small four pages introduction summarizes the action of Luftwaffe in eastern front, from 1941 to the end of the War. The pictures, most in close-ups, are an excellent reference for modelers. As this book is part of a collection, which covers the Luftwaffe action over all fronts, I recommend the purchase of all of them. (note: although being a very good book, as it consists basically of pictures, without any other technical information, I don't thing it desires a higher score)
