Amazon.com:
The tragedy of the Titanic has fascinated all since she sank with 1,500 of her passengers and crew in 1912. Much later, scientist Robert Ballard set out to find and explore the wreck, despite difficulties of depth and location. Using the research submarine Alvin and a remote-controlled underwater robot, he was the very first human in over 70 years to see the giant resting beneath the North Atlantic waves. Secrets of the Titanic tells the story of the events leading up to the sinking using footage and photographs from the doomed maiden voyage and then follows the luckier Dr. Ballard through the steps leading to his discovery. As usual for National Geographic, the photography is excellent, even within the cramped confines of the tiny Alvin. The very first views of the Titanic's interior are truly spectacular, especially when contrasted with vintage photos, and the excitement of Ballard and his crew is contagious. The spirit and joys of discovery are well captured and the viewer is reminded that the world is still teeming with opportunities for adventure. --Rob Lightner

Rated by buyers 5 out of 5 stars - Great Documentary on the Titanic
We bought this to show kids in a middle school class the REAL story of the titanic. We found that all the kids had an understanding of the Titanic that was based on the MOVIE, so I sought out a good documentary type of feel so they could get the real story and THIS IS IT! What a great film. You should have seen the faces of the kids - they were glued to TV screen and very unhappy when we had to stop the film because time was up for the class. They arrived the subsequent day charged up, ready to get back into the story. You will enjoy this feel - it has great historic images and lots of "backstory" on the Titanic. Well constructed and narrated. This will now be shown for years to come to middle-schoolers who think Leonardo DiCaprio was actually on the ship, screaming "I'm the king of the world!!!"...

Rated by buyers 5 out of 5 stars - Great...
This documentary is a greatly detailed account of the 1986 finding of the Titanic by Robert Ballard and his team.

There is a lot of great footage of the sunken ship as well as interactive menus with extras.

It goes into brief history of the ship and its tragic end. It is mostly about the 1986 exploration.
Buy it.
Enjoy

Rated by buyers 1 out of 5 stars - broken and torn
the product arrived with the outer case broken and torn; the dvd played, but just barely. very disappointed.

Rated by buyers 5 out of 5 stars - This is what inspired me
I never knew anything about the Titanic until I watched this the very very first time national geographic aired it. pictures of the past linked with images of today.I had this in my home video library and hade a homeade copy.I friend of mine wanted to borrow the tape I had it on because he was a gung ho top gun fan and the movie he wanted was on the same tape.some friend he never returned the tape and my beloved copy of this was gone forever. Now that I have it back on DVD its under lock and key.
I like the bonus feature the last hours of the Titanic as well which is on this disc. I have since belonged to the Titanic historical society for the last 15 years and it was all because of this video. if your a Titanic buff like me you should consider this a must buy purchase.

Rated by buyers 5 out of 5 stars - Doesn't get much better than this
I remember watching this when it very first aired many years ago on National Geographic. It doesn't disappoint now. When Ballard found the Titanic it was HUGE news, and seeing it in this documentary ... and also seeing very first hand the effort that went into its discovery ... brings it all back. Must also say that Martin Sheen's narration was perfect.

This is definitely a keeper for the ages.
