Editor's Notes and Comments:

Product Description:
Once confined to the drag strip and notorious for blowing up engines, nitrous oxide technology has advanced significantly in recent years and is now much more widely available. This book is the definitive guide to nitrous systems. Written by specialist Trevor Langfield, with over 20 years experience in the field, this book covers everything from the history of nitrous oxide systems through the practical application of the wide variety of systems now available, across a range of engine types. Well illustrated throughout with 150 colour photographs. Also containing detailed information on installing and maintaining a system, how NOS works and comparisons with other performance modifications. This book, from Veloces' immensely successful Speedpro series is an indispensable aid for anyone looking to maximize their engine power.

Rated by buyers 1 out of 5 stars - Simply a treatise in self-promotion!
This book was a waste of time, since the author writes entirely about his own products, and uses fear tactics to scare you away from other manufacturers. Stay away from books that are this one sided. A less biased view would make this book more credible.

Rated by buyers 5 out of 5 stars - Advertised Nitrous-But It's the TRUTH!
I have been involved with supercharged engines for years, along with all the other types of "power adders". But at long last, in my current restomod project, I came to the decision that I'm going to add NOS. And with that short declaration, I started the knowledge search. Magazines, Internet mags, blogs, and books. I think I spent close to $200 on books. Which leads me to this review, on the nitrous book that's written by Trevor Langfield, of England.

When you start reading his book, you notice that he's not American. He's not a shy, quiet, "don't mention the fact that I make my living with nitrous" kind of guy, maybe they're different in Europe.

But no matter the "kind of guy", his knowledge, experience, and willingness to share it, is outstanding. Mr. Langfield does state the benefits of using his products, or his companie's products. But he fully compares each of the aspects with the "industry standard", and then with his products. There isn't one time where he's incorrect. And what's even better, by the time you finish the book, you have an excellent overview of the current "state of the art" of nitrous oxide use in cars. In addition to your increased level of knowledge, you also now know what is the best points to look for, in nitrous oxide equipment.

Mr. Langfield points out that his products do exhibit those "best" points. But he also goes to great depths to ensure that the reader understands why those points are important. Once the reader has that knowledge, the reader can make their own purchasing decision.

Nitrous is a powerful technology, and also has the capability to cause serious damage if it's not treated with respect. By the time you finish Mr. Langfields book, you will have the needed knowledge. You will know what equipment is good, and, even more important, why it's good.

We all know that it is easy to waste money. It's easy to buy "less than the best". The trick is to find the best, and to recognize it when we see it. Mr. Langfield has made that process much easier for me, and I believe that anyone else who reads his book will also do so.

As a note; one of the reviews stated that Mr. Langfield's book was 120 pages of advertising. Well, yes.... and NO. Mr. Langfield is an expert in nitrous. He knows what is the best. And with that knowledge he manufactured the best parts, and systems for those of us who lack the time, or knowledge to do it ourselves. However, in his book he freely shows us why he makes the parts and systems, the way he does. He explains the differences. And that isn't something you find in advertising.

I learned a great deal through my reading of his book, and others. And in the past 4 months, of all that I've learned, read, and discovered, I could have saved myself a lot of effort, time, and money, if I had simply bought and read his book first.

And that's my opinion, and review of Nitrous Oxide, High Performance Manual. You won't go wrong by buying it!

Rated by buyers 1 out of 5 stars - 112 page advertisement
I am considering using nitrous oxide on a couple of my project cars, and wanted a book that gave some good information about setting up a progressive nitrous controller. I picked this one up and was seriously disappointed.

The book is written by a self-proclaimed nitrous oxide expert from England, Trevor Langfield. In the `About the author' section, written in the third person by the author himself, he details some less-than-impressive racing results on some niche cars of no real interest to the average American performance enthusiast.

Starting at the end of this very first section, the book becomes a 112 page advertisement for the author's own company's products, Wizard of NOS. Every chapter is comprised of a brief explanation of the concepts involved (similar to what most manufacturers put in their online FAQ) followed by an explanation of why the WON (author's acronym for his own nitrous product manufacturer, Wizard of NOS) products are superior to all others (even moreso than most manufacturers put in their online FAQ). You may think I am exaggerating - I am not.

Here's a typical example: The second chapter is entitled, "A Basic `Wet' Nitrous Oxide System", and gives a brief description of the components included in a typical wet nitrous system such as bottles, supply lines, and solenoids. In the sub-chapter, "Fuel Supply Adapters" the author offers the following:

"Most kits are supplied with a basic `T' piece that its intended to be fitted in the fuel pipe leading from the fuel pump to the engine's fuel delivery system. WON offers a range of fittings that are vehicle specific to ease this aspect of fitting a nitrous system."

Get the gist? That is the sub-chapter in its entirety. There is no mention of the fact that the `T' connection needs to be after the fuel filter but before the fuel pressure regulator to ensure a clean fuel supply that does not take pressure from the fuel injection system - just that the WON version is top notch.

I have little doubt that his stuff is good, I'm just not used to paying book prices for a catalog. I guess more than anything, I'm annoyed at the author's use of an educational book series to market his products. There is some useful information here, and some of it does make a good case for the superior design of the WON line of nitrous products, but that's not the point. If I want to be talked into buying a specific company's products, I'll look to user reviews and magazine comparo-stories. When I buy a book about a specific technology, I expect objective, unbiased information about that technology and not a marketing brochure for one provider of equipment.

If you are looking for material to help you sell Wizard of NOS products, buy this book. If you are looking, as I was, for technical details of properly setting up a nitrous oxide system, you should probably keep looking.

Rated by buyers 1 out of 5 stars - Disapointing
This is an out of date product manual/brochure for the Wizards of Nos company. If you want more information about the Wizards of NOS company, the website is probably more up to date. If you want more information about NOS this in not the book you are looking for. Either way, avoid at all costs.

Rated by buyers 2 out of 5 stars - Moderately useful for beginners, too much time wasted on selling his own nitrous products
There is some moderately useful information for beginners here, but it becomes extremely tiresome reading about the purported superiority of this man's nitrous products vs. the rest of the market. Even if it were true, it's unnecessary to cram the sentiment into every paragraph. There are also some factual liberties taken in the "turbo vs. nitrous" section which I found to be rather curious and unnecessary...
