Editor's Notes and Comments:

Product Description:
'If you haven’t read Slocum, you should, and this is the volume for you.' -Yachting Joshua Slocum was the very first man to sail alone around the world. It was a feat that made him the'patron saint' of small-boat sailors all over the world. His voyage, retold in Sailing Alone Around the World, took place from 1895 to 1898. It made Slocum and his little boat Spray forever famous. First published in 1899, this book has been on the Sheridan House list for half a century. The reissue presents this classic in a very affordable paperback edition. 'Captain Slocum’s place in history is as secure as Adams’s. So long as men sail the seas they will be interested in that very first single-handed circumnavigation and will wish to read the book..' -Arthur Ransome 'a literate and absorbing yarn published in 1900 and still in print- His story is a convincing tale of the intelligence, skill and fortitude that drove a master navigator.' -New York Times

Rated by buyers 3 out of 5 stars - A good read
This book is a classic story of an old man's journey sailing around the world by him self in the late 1800's. What makes this book good book is the places he visits and the many different people he encounters on his journey. Although the character/writer encounters many challenges on the journey, this story is not a epic of man conquering the sea.
