Editor's Notes and Comments:

Product Description:

Schuyler Van Alen is starting to get more comfortable with her newfound vampire powers, but she still has many unanswered questions. A trip to Italy in search of her grandfather only serves to make things more confusing. What secrets are the leaders of The Committee hiding? Meanwhile, back in New York, preparations are feverishly underway for the famous Four Hundred Ball. In true Blue Blood fashion, the ball is totally fab, complete with masks-and hidden behind this masquerade is a revelation that will change the course of a young vampire's destiny.

The thrilling sequel in Melissa de la Cruz's vampire mythology has all the glamour, attitude, and vampire lore that made the very first book a hit.

Rated by buyers 5 out of 5 stars - Masquerade
I couldn't wait to read it and my daughter and I are looking forward to the 3rd book.

Rated by buyers 4 out of 5 stars - Fun Read
I really liked this book. Lots of mystery, romance and suspense. I love the mardi gras mask on the cover! I wish I had one of those for Halloween!

Rated by buyers 4 out of 5 stars - Continued Fun With The Over-Privilged Blood-Drinking Set
A great sequel to Blue Bloods. It moves much quicker than the book before it because time doesn't have to be spent introducing characters. It's also a slightly more mature storyline -- veering in to sometimes-creepy Flowers in the Attic territory rather than holding true to it's Twilight and Gossip Girl roots.

Rated by buyers 5 out of 5 stars - Vampire book is different 2nd book in series
I liked this book more then the very first in the series because i knew what was going on, and I could understand who these vampires were made. They really never died, their dna is transferred into a new vampire body, but after they turn a certain age they remember the past lifes. But there is a twist Schuyler doesn't have a past life because her father was a human and her mother was a vampire. So now the vampires of New York are very concerned about her and what she means to their family. The only way to understand these books is to read them. It is a good read.

Rated by buyers 4 out of 5 stars - Masquerade an apt title
Masquerade picks up a few weeks after Blue Bloods ends with Schulyer and Oliver searching Venice for Schulyer's grandfather, Lawrence Van Alan. She does find him and events move more quickly once he enters the picture.

I don't want to give away too much of it, but Mimi gets accused of being the harborer of the Silver Bloods, and a Silver Blood herself after she was found in the possession of dark magic.

Schulyer ends up saving her because as the daughter of Gabrielle, she is the only one of the Blue Bloods who can taste the blood of other vampires without succumbing to the addiction and memory overload that can cause madness.

The action is far from being over - they managed to find out about one Silver Blood and the rest of Council knows about the danger but nothing else has happened to really put a stop to them and they are all in danger until then...

The action moves along with a nice pace and the title sums the book up nicely. There is an actual masquerade ball but the title seems to really bring out the idea of not knowing who is on which side of the 'fight'. Sometimes it even seems like the characters themselves don't know which side they are on.

It's well worth reading but I think I'd have absolutely confused if I had not read the very first book first. This is not a series you can just pick up on from the middle.
