This author, undoubtedly, has a horrific true story of her battle with BN. The writing felt disjointed and undeveloped. The author added stories that she did not give the reader closure on (i.e. Did she have the colostomy bag forever? What was that like for her? And the story about her CASA child was thrown in strangely.)

I'm not sure how this book has received so many good reviews; it's a very poor depiction of life with an eating disorder and I speak from 20 years of personal experience. There are much, much better books out there.

I recently saw the author on "Geraldo at Large" and was capitvated by her honesty and courage. She discussed her own battle with anorexia and her reasons for writing the book. As Ms. Lipton said, she wanted to give a voice to the inner thoughts torturing an anorexic as he/she lives with this disorder. Additionally, Ms. Lipton stated she wanted to let people know that an eating disorder can be overcome. I, then, bought the book, was mesmerized reading it and haven't stopped thinking about it. As a high school teacher I have seen students battling eating disorders and can only wish I had had this book so as to have a better understanding of what they were feeling and possibly been able to help in some way. At least now I have the knowledge and believe I can offer some comfort and direction. I urge all parents to get yourselves a copy of this book. It may make all the difference.

I could not put the book down and found myself completely in the character's head. I thought she must have written it with me in mind. I wonder if she even is writing about my school! I'm so thankful to have this book. I'm debating whether or not to give it to my parents... but I keep thinking.... not yet.

reading this book i can tell it is not based on a real eating disordered person....i myself am and know many who are and the book is simply unrealistic and too fast paced...it is better to hear the story of this gripping illness and the persons battle against it from someone who has been there...
