Rated by buyers 1 out of 5 stars - not impressed
My children have watched this show for a while now and over all I didn't mind the show. Last week my 5 year old daughter took this book out of the school library. Everyone was excited so we cuddled up on the sofa to read it. I was HORRIFIED and had to stop reading.

The Pictures have beautiful colors however the subject of the pictures would give any child nightmares. The rhyming makes everything sound pretty but those rhymes are not nice. They are rude and mean. An example is:

His hot breath sprayed Miss Spider's face
With all the force he had,
He screamed, 'You will reveal his name!"
She said, "I won't, you cad!"

He turned his back and brayed, "I must
Go find and grind him into dust!
So foolish woman, be forewarned,
Spiderus Reeves shall not be scorned."

That is only two little paragraphs. I stopped reading it and explained to my children that sometimes books were not good for us to read and it was my job to make sure they had good things in their minds not garbage.

Miss Spider is now officially banned in our house.

I strongly suggest parents take the time to read the book before bringing it into your home.

Rated by buyers 1 out of 5 stars - Homeschooling mom who loves to learn
This book is HORRIBLE and NOT for any child under the age of 16, good grief the amount of adult content in this book is sickening. The pictures alone will give nightmares. I'm not sure what the other people who gave this book 5 stars are exposing their children too but I would never read this book to my children, we checked it out at the library and I saw the pictures and wondered so I read the book myself and it's wretched. If I could have given it no stars I would have!!

Rated by buyers 1 out of 5 stars - Totally inappropriate for kids!
Miss Spider is a favorite with my three year old daughter. She loves the show as well as the books. However, this is a book I will never allow her to have again. This book, written in verse, is not only hard for little ones to understand, it is completely inappropriate. This story line, while very close to the shows version of the story is much darker and teaches the wrong lesson. Miss Spider is in love with "Holly" a small and shy spider who is said to be weak and unacceptable for a mate by Miss Spider's friend and is even called a "Panty waist". Spiderus Reeves, a larger, more intimidating spider speaks of the ways that he will woo Miss Spider from Holly and get her in "the mood". This story does not at all contain the kind of moral lessons that I feel most parents are trying to teach their children. Shame on David Kirk for taking such a normally captivating, beautiful series of books and shows and making it so adult like in content that our children can no longer enjoy Miss Spider.

Rated by buyers 5 out of 5 stars - Adult Reader Gives Three Thumbs Up
This book MIGHT not be suitable for little kids. I would share it with my own, but each parent should read this book for him/herself very first to make that decision, before sharing it with the little ones.

Even if you think the topic is a little too sensitive for your kids at this time, I recommend holding onto it until your little ones are ready -- or just buying a copy for yoursef. Because this book is excellent in all regards. It is well written, the plot is clear and funny, and the illustrations are...well, absolutely stunning. I picked this book up for myself. Once in a while, I will sit down, and literally put my fingers on the pictures. They are works of art. I like to read sections aloud, because the rhyming structure is so pleasing to the tongue.

There are very few children's books that still hold my attention. In fact, I would say that this book is a keeper for all ages. And when you decide your little one is old enough for the contents, I am sure he/she/they will delight in this superb book.

Rated by buyers 1 out of 5 stars - Not A Children's Book
I fell in love with the art work of the Miss Spider books and bought a few for my son. When we saw this book at the library I figured it was another good book in the series. I was wrong. The content of this book is definately not aimed at children. It hints at intimacy that young children don't need to be exposed to and some of the pictures are rather scary. I stopped halfway through the book, noticing some of the pictures. They could very likely give a child nightmares. Children do not need to be exposed to this content and violence depicted in the story. Let's keep them young a little while longer yet please.
