Rated by buyers 4 out of 5 stars - Beautiful book!
I read this book at a time in my life when I was feeling pretty low. My mother had recently died and I was overwhelmed with that experience. This book showed me that my struggles were so insignificant to the struggles that some other people have. This book grounded me, gave me hope and inspired me. I am so appreciative to Mr. Sparks for taking me on this around the world adventure with him and his brother and for sharing this touching, real life story with me and other readers. (Note: Keep a box of tissue near by!)

Rated by buyers 4 out of 5 stars - A fun journey
I was initially turned on to Nicholas Sparks because my girlfriend told me that I have a similar writing style as him, which naturally piqued my curiosity.

I picked up one of her many copies of his books and started reading Three Weeks w/ my Brother. You can imagine my surprise when noticing uncanny similarities to our writing styles, not to mention sense of humor. I'll be honest, I preferred the story of his life more than the trip itself. His roller-coaster life story has some interesting parallels to my novel, The Domino Effect, as you could probably guess by the title.

I liked reading 'Three Weeks' so much that I've since read several others, namely: A Walk to Remember and Message in a Bottle.

Sparks definitely has a uniqueness about him. Even though his storylines aren't terribly original, there is always something about them that draws the reader in. That is a rare talent.

Rated by buyers 4 out of 5 stars - an emotional memoir
Having not read any of Nicholas Sparks' other work, but knowing from hearsay that his books are in the vein of romantic dramas and tragic tales, I was expecting something sappy.

Well this book has its moments of sap, but it's not bad.

This memoir, for one thing, is well written and easy to get through. But its a pretty emotional memoir. Nicholas Sparks, like everybody else in the world, endures ups and downs in his life. But is highs cant even compare to the lows. Not even making his very first million dollars can compare to losing his mom at 47 years old or his sister at 33. Its interesting to read how he copes because, you the reader can relate to times in your life when you might have had to cope similarly. The rollercoaster of life gets to us all.. how we choose to deal with it is always different. Seeing how he dealt with it was inspirational, and made for a good read.

One thing I found to be interesting was finding out why it was important that he is on this trip with his brother. Without taking away too much surprise for those who havent read it I will say, when you realize why it reminds you of the importance of family.

And it makes you feel like you should reach out to your own family.

Good book. Enjoyed it. And would recommend to others.

Rated by buyers 5 out of 5 stars - Excellent!
I gave the book as a gift to the girlfriend of my son. She was so delighted and happy because she has been trying to find that book for a long time. I was glad that I made her happy. Thanks to Amazon! You can find things at Amazon.com that you dont find anywhere else.

Three Weeks with My Brother
I am not a fan of fiction, so when I found this memoir, I thought I'd give it a try. (I have never read Sparks' fiction works, though I have seen some of the movies.)

The book was amusing at first--stories from his early childhood. I was suprised at the lack of supervision the Sparks kids received and their strange upbringing; it reminded me of another favorite memoir: Zippy. However, as the book progressed, I became more interested in the lives of these kids and what drove each of them to succeed in different ways.

Three Weeks was cleverly written--each chapter a brief summary of what the brothers saw on their three-week tour, followed by a lengthier recollection of the events in their lives. I found myself both wanting to join them on the tour of these sights around the world and wanting to keep reading what happened in their pasts. It is also very personal. The emotions expressed--whether the grieving that they experienced or the individual faults they exposed in themselves--told more than words about these two men. I would believe that with two of them writing this book, it is presents a pretty accurate picture of their childhoods and who they have become.

I cannot believe the pain the Sparks brothers have endured over the years, but it is a blessing that they are so dear to one another. I don't think the book is going to lure me into reading his fiction books, though I do find it interesting that most of his books have been inspired by the tragedies he's lived through.
