Editor's Notes and Comments:
Product Description:
This is both the story of how the world's very first submarine was built and how it was employed in the Continental Army's desperate endeavor to hold on to New York in 1776. We also read about the nearly forgotten genius, David Bushnell, whose submarine was as amazing a feat for the 18th century as space travel was for the 20th. The innovation of this one individual, along with the encouragement of such luminaries as Thomas Jefferson, George Washington, and Benjamin Franklin, epitomized the ingenuity and potential of the new nation.

While children will certainly like this book, there is no doubt adults who are interested in the history of Bushnell's submarine will as well. There is a wealth of real history here that those interested either the history of the American Revolution or nautical technology will find fascinating.

My Daughter, is a budding 11 year old, and is quite addicted to mystgeries, Harry potter, etc. This book is a little outside of her interest, but sje loved it. She finished it in no time flat, and even brought it to her history teacher, who thoght it was quite good. My daughter was fascinated by Bushnell, who grew up on a connecticut farm, and became the pioneer of submarine technology!
Highly recommend this book!!
