Sunny Patch School
Was the best place to go
To study the lessons
All bugs ought to know.
When the very first day of school arrives, Little Miss Spider is almost beside herself with excitement. She gobbles her breakfast ('a fresh flower plate') and runs all the way to Sunny Patch School. But poor Miss Spider is in for a day of frustration. She can't seem to master the new lessons: dung digging, leaf drilling, stinging, or flying. As the day draws to a close, Miss Spider bemoans her lack of skills. Isn't there anything she can do well? We are all soon to find out...

David Kirk's bestselling Miss Spider series, including Miss Spider's Tea Party and Miss Spider's New Car, blasts the reader with brilliant splashes of colour and quirky, bug-eyed (no, really!) insect characters. In this second adventure of the spinoff Little Miss Spider series, Kirk's droll verses harmonize with the shiny, eye-catching paintings for a heartwarming tale, sure to be a favorite with Miss Spider's ever-increasing entourage of fans--especially those getting ready for their very first day of school! Rated by buyers 3 out of 5 stars - Adorable!
Okay, this has to be the dorkiest thing I have ever read to my students, but one of them picked it out and told me to read it. So I did. And despite all it's too-cutesy dorkiness, I liked it. I liked its bright art. I liked the sweet message.

Dorkey, but adorable.

Rated by buyers 5 out of 5 stars - The pictures really make this book.
David Kirk's illustrations are brightly colored and beautiful. I have yet to find a children's book author with better pictures. The words in this one are catchy and simple, but still clever and the rhymes never feel forced. And the message, that we are valued more for our treatment of others than for our accomplishments, is one all children should hear. The true measure of greatness for any kids' book though is how many times you can read it before you, the parent, are sick of it. I have read this one over 100 times and I have not hidden it from my children yet.

Rated by buyers 5 out of 5 stars - Shining in Sunny Patch
"Little Miss Spider at Sunny Patch School" takes us on another adventure into the life of David Kirk's Miss Spider character when she was just a little girl.

Miss Spider, like many kids, is eager to start school. She can't wait to learn her lessons and have fun. She's heard about so many great things happening at school and is eager to try them out.

Things start well enough for Miss Spider. She meets the principal and then dives into the day's activities. At very first she has fun, but when she doesn't seem to be succeeding at anything, she begins to get worried. She learns that she has a special quality that can always be appreciated.

The story, like most other David Kirk books, rhymes and the illustrations are bright and delightful. They're full-page on every other page, with smaller illustrations to accompany the text. "Miss Spider" fans will enjoy learning more about the early life of one of their favorite bugs.

Rated by buyers 4 out of 5 stars - miss spider book
I love any of the miss spider books!! They are such great stories...such colorful, beautiful pictures. I love the rhyming in the storeis as well!! These stories definitely keep the kids attention!!:):)

Rated by buyers 5 out of 5 stars - a Delightful Tale
This story has made me a fan of David Kirk's work. The story is wonderful and teaches children a valuable lesson in self respect and being different, while showing that everyone is talented at something. You must never give up trying to find what your special talents are. Lil Miss Spider is excited about her very first day of school, but when she arrives finds that there are many things that the other bugs can do, that she can't do well at all. At the end of the day she realizes how special she is when she courageously comes to the aid of another bug in trouble. She makes a gallant rescue and finally earns her gold star. "Our gifts, they are many: We hop, fly and crawl. But kindness," he (the principal) said, "Is the finest of all!" A perfect end to a brilliant children's story with unbelievably beautiful, bold illustrations. Your children won't be able to help themselves fall for the rhyming text as the story is brought to life with the pictures. This is a book that I delight in reading over and over again. One warning: The pages are gorgeous , but made on a thick, glossy paper. My daughter, who loves to put EVERYTHING in her mouth, got the nastiest paper cut on her lip. So now when I read it to her I give her a soft toy to keep her hands full. Ive purchased the board books as well, and those I put into heavy rotation. This is still my favorite, but will be better for her when she's a bit older.
