Editor's Notes and Comments:

Product Description:
The evolution of the American fishing schooner from the 18th century to the last working and racing schooners of the mid-1930s is recounted in this book. The designers, builders and crews are discussed, and 137 plans of schooners show graphically the development of the type. An important feature of the book is its illustrated glossary-appendix, which covers items of hull construction and equipment, rigging and gear, colour and carving, and includes notes by the builders and riggers themselves.

This is a great reference book for any serious model builder, with lots of details and illustrations, clearly charting the evolution of the design of the American fishing schooners over the golden age of their careers.

Rated by buyers 5 out of 5 stars - A Must Reference Book for Scratch Schooner Model Makers!
The most comprehensive source I have encountered for the intricate details of north american fishing schooners from the late 1800's and early 1900's.

Rated by buyers 5 out of 5 stars - A classic book on American fishing schooner design
This is the most comprehensive book ever written on the subject. It was penned by one of America's premier historians of 19th Century Naval Architecture. It is doubtful that a finer book will ever be written on the subject of American fishing schooners.
It was a classic when I was a boy, and it is still a classic.
No student of 19th Century Maritime history should go without this book.

not sure how you expect me to review it, you have not shipped it to me yet.

Rated by buyers 5 out of 5 stars - The ultimate history of the design of the fishing schooners.
Howard Chapelle, the dean of American watercraft historians completed this final work a few years before his death. Not particularly rich in "sea lore", it is nonetheless the standard resource regarding this American arche-type of design. Enhanced with numerous photographs, lines drawings and sketches of rigging and deck gear, it is a valuable resource. It is a complement to other volumes of Chappelle's work.
