I'm a bit disappointed in the disjoining of this series from the previous one. There were a few references, but this was 'way too big a jump to perform comfortably.

STAR MARINES(2007) is the third book of THE LEGACY TRILOGY. This trilogy is itself a follow-on to THE HERITAGE TRILOGY(1998-2001). This trilogy covers the exploits of space-faring Marines from the 22nd-24th centuries, who fight strange aliens in remote locations in increasingly distant star systems.
This book is a letdown after the last book in the series, the excellent BATTLESPACE(2006).
The biggest complaint I have with this entry in the series is that it jumps around too much... even within particular chapters, things are so disjoint that it is unclear what the author is driving towards.
At times the story bogs down to the point where I actually considered tossing the book and not finishing it.
There is the usual issue with poor character development which has plagued this series since the 2nd book.
Having said the above, there are bright spots in this book... the bookcover art is the best yet in the series (but what is that stupid helicopter looking thing?), and the ending was pretty good.
I'd already bought the subsequent book in the series STAR STRIKE (as part of a package deal), and I'm hoping things can get back on track again after this subpar entry.

I really enjoyed this book. Being a Marine, it was interesting to know that the history and pride of the Marine Corps carries on into the future.

I read a lot of sci-fi and the storyline of this series intrigued me. I made it about 50 pages in before I gave up. It was just plain dry and boring. Wooden characters I didn't care what happened to and a long drawn out introduction to establish something that could be established in a paragraph - that the rest of the world doesn't like the U.S. because we won't cede sovereignty to the U.N.
It just isn't good writing. The action is too slow-paced and the writer is too preachy and wordy.

I have read both this series and the Heritage Triology and this was a great book to end the series. Mr. Douglas/Keith did a great job with the action and with the overall story.
Bringing in the Marines from Ishtar was a great touch. The description of the near end of the world was outstanding. The space combat and the assualt on the alien system was excellent and very believable.
I would recommend both series to anyone who enjoys Military Science Fiction. I hope Mr. Douglas/Keith will write another Bolo Novel.
