Product Description:
Knopf is proud to present a handsome 20th-anniversary edition of Dick King-Smith’s bestselling novel that became an Academy Award–nominated movie. When Babe arrives at Hogget Farm, Mrs. Hogget’s thoughts turn to sizzling bacon and juicy pork chops—until he reveals a surprising talent for sheepherding, that is. Before long, Babe is handling Farmer Hogget’s flock better than any sheepdog ever could. Babe is so good, in fact, that the farmer enters him into the Grand Challenge Sheepdog Trials. Will it take a miracle for Babe to win?
Complete with the original text and stunningly reillustrated by acclaimed artist Maggie Kneen, this anniversary edition of Babe is perfect to introduce a new generation of readers to the magical story of a pig like no other.
Amazon.com Review:
Babe is a sensitive soul, deeply loyal to those who are kind to him. So when he is taken in by Farmer Hogget's sheepdog, Fly, it's only natural that he would want to follow in his foster mum's paw-steps. Even with Babe's considerable handicaps as a sheepdog--namely, that he's a pig--he manages to overcome all with his earnestly polite and soft-spoken ways, proving once again that might doesn't always make right. After saving the sheep from rustlers and wild dogs, Babe convinces Hogget that his idea of becoming a sheep-pig 'b'aint so stupid' as it might look. But neither Hogget nor Babe, nor anyone else, could have predicted what follows.
As utterly charming as Charlotte's Web, this book is bound to pluck even the tightest heartstrings. Masterful characterization brings every personality to vibrant life, while Mary Rayner's lively line illustrations only elucidate images Dick King-Smith has already planted in the reader's mind. Herd the whole farmyard together: readers of all ages, ambitions, and antecedents will love this one. --Emilie Coulter

This book is my favorite book. I think it is even better then the movie, which I liked also. It is a wonderful story of a pig that lives on a farm, and in the end, accomplishes his goal of being a "sheep pig". This book shows us that whatever we want to be, we can if we just believe. I would recommend this book for anyone who loves animals and farm life. I would definitely read it again.

In this book, a pig was a prize to be won at a fair in sheep country. Mr. Hogget played the game for the pig. Mr. Hogget told his wife that he played the game for the pig. Mrs. Hogget said I'd like a pig. We can feed him scraps and eat him for Christmas dinner. Fly was training her four puppies when she saw the pig that Mr. Hogget won named Babe. Babe was adopted by Fly and soon learned to herd ducks, chickens, and other farm animals. He really wanted to meet the flock of sheep so he could be like Fly. Will he ever become a useful farm animal instead of a Christmas dinner? Babe saved the flock and convinced them that they would never eat him. Hogget was training Babe for the Grand Challenge Sheep Dog Trials. Mr.Hogget said to his wife see the telly and took off with Babe and Fly..... I reckoned this book for all ages, because it is a cute little book.

Mr. Hogget, a sheep rancher, won a pig named Babe at the fair, very much like the one I went to in Sheridan, WY! When Babe came to the ranch, he was a very little pig, so Fly, the sheep dog, decided to mother him along with her five puppies. Babe was soon calling Fly, Mum. Babe also became friends Maaa, an old ewe who at the time needed to be taken care of separately. Maaa was always complaining on how sheepdog treated sheep. Babe asked, "Mum, will you train me to be a sheep-pig?" She said, "Yes." So, Fly started to train him how to be a sheep-pig on ducks, and soon he was fairly good. One day, when Maaa was back in the pasture with the flock and Fly and Farmer Hogget were at market, he decided to go meet the flock. It was chaos! There were sheep rustlers there! Babe ceased them from stealing all the sheep. From then, on Farmer Hogget let Babe come with him and Fly to check the sheep. The very first time he came with them Farmer Hogget tried to get him to work the sheep. He did it perfectly! From then on he did most of the sheep work. One day, he decided to go visit the sheep. Again it was chaos! This time it wasn't rustlers, but worriers! They had Maaa down! Before they could kill her, Babe chased them away. Maaa died soon after. Farmer Hogget was readying babe for the sheep dog trials! Will he win? I recommend Babe the Gallant Pig, because it's very outstanding, exciting, and suspenseful!

In this book, a pig got adopted by a dog named fly on a sheep farm in Gloucestershire, England. Then one day she named him Babe and it stuck. Then fly had to do something with the boss. Then they came back with a sheep. Then Babe asked what is that mum? There is the stupidest animal on earth, sheep. Then Babe wanted to meet the sheep.
So he did then he asked what her name was. She said it was Ma. Then Babe wanted to meet the flock. So they made a plan. It was to let Mr. Hogget and Fly go to the market. Have Ma go back in to the flock. One day, Babe went up the hill and saw the sheep running like crazy. He felt anger against the dogs. He ran after them; then he rammed one in the side. One day, Mr. Hoggett went to the trials with Babe in the back of the truck. Will Babe win the trials? I think this book is for any age. I recommend this book to read for fun.

I say, "In this book, a pig called Babe is neat." With patience, the pig turns into a sheep- pig. He always asks sheep nicely to do things. One day, these two dogs came and killed a sheep. Will the dog kill more? Babe almost got shot, but Mrs. Hogget saved him. Every one was happy! It was good that he didn't die. It would have broken my heart if he would have died. That's was a scary part. This all took place in a farm in sheep country in the present. That's where it took place. So now he's going to the trials, but he does not know what trials are. Fly told him that it was where sheep-dogs compete. Then one day, Farmer Hogget was going to put Babe in to compete, but he was worried that he would not be fast enough. Then Fly said that he should go on a diet and run more. So Babe did it. Will they ever get Babe into the competition? I think that anyone could read Babe, because it's exciting and heartwarming.
