Rated by buyers 5 out of 5 stars - Calimom
This book is for any parents who want to be really educated about this topic, and not just hear someone talk about what seems like a good idea to them. The author has totally done her research, and I learned some amazing and shocking things. Everything about how toilet training was done in the past (ie before disposable diapers), as well as how it's done in other countries makes it totally clear that the only reason we are waiting so long in this country to toilet train is to make disposable diaper companies more money. She explains in great detail why this is not good for kids, especially how out of touch we (and they) are with what is going on with their bodies. She ties in the central role that good eating and drinking habits have (and the many huge implications of getting this wrong).

Most of all, she is funny, and lots of her writing is anecdotal about patients of hers and even her own kids. The environmental effects of all of those disposable diapers (think about using them twice as long as our parents used them!). Plus, most disposable diapers have the same petrochemicals that we are avoiding in our bottles and cups. But we wrap them up in them every day for years.... I think she should make a much bigger point than she does about this.

Overall, someone who tells the truth, not just what is popular or easy, but really informs you. A dead-on hit for parents who want to be smart about toilet training.

Rated by buyers 4 out of 5 stars - Highly recommended
I don't have a lot to add to other reviews, but I do hope the author would include more about night time toilet training in future editions. Both of my children were diaper free in the daytime before age 2 using the principles in this book. I cringe when I think of the environmental impact of how many more diapers we would have used by waiting longer. It is also nice to not have to change poopy diapers because they go in the toilet. This is a great book for learning how to toilet train your child in a way that is kind and with common sense. It is easily read in a day or two. However, there should be more information about how to deal with nighttime learning and its obstacles.

Rated by buyers 5 out of 5 stars - Great Book and good middle of the road approach to potty training.
I absolutely love this book! I knew I did not want to end up with a three or four year old in diapers and I knew I didn't want to hold a three month old over a toilet. This book offers a great middle approach. I love how she explains the reasons for the increasing age of potty training completion and how she dispels the readiness approach. She explains that it is possible to gently train your child before they reach three and gives simple ways to do it. She encourages the early introduction of the potty (from as early as six months) and gradually switching to cloth trainers and getting rid of disposable diapers (including Pull-Ups) entirely. I know too many people who have trained their children before two and this is a safe gentle approach written by a knowlegeable pediatrician.

Rated by buyers 5 out of 5 stars - Diaper Free Before 3 makes sense
This book takes us back to common sense potty-training. No bells, whistles, songs or dances, no potty charts, stickers bribes or fights. Instead the author recommends gradual potty training as part of daily life. I bought three of these books as gifts for friends (and included a little potty).

Rated by buyers 5 out of 5 stars - Ecouraging
I bought the book 3 days ago and yesterday my 9 month old did #2 in her potty. I think this book gave me the courage and confidence I needed to get my baby on the potty. The very first day, we tried the potty twice and yesterday we tried 3 times. If it wasn't for the book's tips and advice I probably would have waited until she was a little after a year to begin training (or may be even longer).

The book has plenty of sound advice in all aspects related to eliminating. Eventhough I'm starting my baby "early", I do agree with others in that this book lacks enough info. for those starting later. However, it's still a great book.
