Editor's Notes and Comments:

Product Description:

'They are love, those rare early friendships.' As she travels to the Outer Banks of North Carolina for a reunion with three of her college chums, Kate Abrams ponders the past. Had she ever known anyone as intimately as these three? There's smart, tough Cecie; foolish, lonely Fig; and pert, wealthy Ginger, who married young Kate's great love. Kate wonders whether such sublime bonds -- and such deep betrayals -- can survive the years. She is, after all, no stranger to life's ironies. Her father, a poor Southerner, filled her life with social illusions -- and took his life in the process. Her husband sustained her through later deaths. And now an ongoing battle with cancer puts Kate's own life on the line.

Forced to face dark truths about her 'golden' past, Kate discovers the meaning of life and the power of true friendship. Mystery, madness, revenge and awakening await Kate Abrams on the Outer Banks.

Rated by buyers 4 out of 5 stars - Another super read by Anne Rivers Siddons
I wondered about this book at the outset because the very first few chapters depressed me. But the author really pulls you in with characters that are interesting in and of themselves and moreso because of the realtionships between them. Her themes resonate with females generally, but she's also a beautiful, witty writer. The end of the book especially is riveting! This would be a great summer read.

Rated by buyers 5 out of 5 stars - Great stuff
I always know a book is fantastic when I finish it and have to discuss it with someone immediately. I had never read any of ARS's work and went into this knowing very little about the plot. The book is a little overdramatic in parts and some things are never fully explained, but I didn't care because the characters and relationships seemed so real. If you're ready to go on a roller coaster ride down memory lane, pick up this one.

Rated by buyers 2 out of 5 stars - A disappointing read
I've always enjoyed Siddon's descriptions of the locations and milieu of the characters in her books, and this one continues at a high level on that score. But the plot line was not engaging. Very slow. I kept waiting for something intriguing to happen, as it does in other of her books. I'd skip this one and read another of Anne Rivers Siddon's wonderful books.

Rated by buyers 5 out of 5 stars - I loved this book!!
This was the very first book I read by Anne River Siddons, but I will read them all now. I found myself laughing and crying throughout the entire book. A great read--I highly reccommend it!!

Rated by buyers 2 out of 5 stars - Not for me
I usually enjoy Anne River Siddons, but this book just left me unsatisfied. I thought the twist at the ending was just silly (with Paul and Fig). I have to say this is my least favorite of Siddons' books so far.
